Foreclosure Pets
I continue to hear stories about pets being abandoned due to homeowners who have lost their home due to forclosure. I personally have witnessed this myself as we ourselves have adopted foreclosure pets. It makes me angry and sad that people do not consider the welfare of their pet regardless of their personal situation.
A Very Sad but True Story
A real estate professional and a business associate of mine and I went to a house that had been foreclosed on as soon as instructions were received by the bank to inspect it. Unfortunately the assignment was given several days after the people moved out. It was a very hot summer day. When we arrived we found a very thin lethargic old Mastiff laying in the living room. The floor was covered with urine and feces, the poor dog had no food or water. The smell was horrible. It had to have been 110 degrees in the house. The dog was obviously suffering and appeared to have difficulty walking. Animal control was called to the home. My friend and I were both beside ourselves and in tears. Begging them to take the dog to a no-kill shelter to see if they could save the dog. The Animal Control Officer was very kind, and said they would do all they could for the dog. Later we found out it was just too late to save this dog and he had to be put to sleep. More tears...
I truly can't imagine someone to be so cruel, but this type of abuse happens everyday in this world. You can help us stop the cruelty. Because if you and I don't speak up for these helpless animals, who will?
Here are a few suggestions on how you can help save foreclosure pets. If you do not wish to get involved Goodlife For Pets will be happy to help.
Keep watch in your neighborhood for people making unexpected moves.
- If you know that a home in your neighborhood is being foreclosed upon and you know that they have pets, ask the owners if they have made plans for their pets?
- Some home owners may not know where to take their pets. They may be willingly turn over their pets to an animal welfare agency that specializes in rescuing stray and abandoned pets.
- Leave animal rescue literature with the owners; Goodlife for Pets will provide that information for you to give, and even deliver it for you. It's better to offend and apologize than to do nothing.
- After the owners have moved, check on the home to see if any pets were left behind or tied up in the back yard.
- If you find a dehydrated pet, give them a small amount of water under close supervision -- some pets can become so thirsty and weak that they can drown in a water bowl -- call a vet before administering food.
- Call your local humane society to find out how you can help to rescue abandoned pets.
- Animal cruelty is against the law in the STATE of MISSOURI. If you suspect animal cruelty, call your local police.
Pets deserve a Good Life.
